As part of a continued major effort to expand its research and teaching mission, the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates who are well-funded will also be considered for a higher rank. We seek candidates with broad training in Pharmacology who have nationally competitive research in one or more of the following areas in which we already have major strengths: cardiovascular, cancer, neuroscience, inflammation or adaptive immunology, as well as pharmacogenomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. Applicants should have a strong publication record and, preferably, extramural grant funding. A demonstrated ability or potential to teach is desired, as responsibilities will include teaching Pharmacology to medical students. This is an excellent opportunity for junior faculty members because of the competitive starting salary, state-funded positions, ample laboratory space, core facilities, and the commitment of the existing faculty to provide strong career mentoring. This sizeable department offers many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborative research. Our very collegial environment also extends to clinical departments and other colleges at ETSU. The university is a regional state-supported institution serving ~15,000 students. The College of Medicine consistently ranks among the top Schools nationwide for rural medicine and primary care education. Johnson City is located at the base of the scenic Appalachian Mountains and provides a friendly, small town atmosphere. Our community also has a low cost of living, excellent public and private schools, clean mountain air, light traffic and southern hospitality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expertise and ability to build a nationally competitive research program which hosts trainees and collaborates within the department. Experience in teaching medical or biomedical pharmacology courses or the willingness to develop such skills is required. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD, DVM and/or MD plus postdoctoral research productivity in a related biomedical research area, as evidenced by a strong recent publication record. Preferred Qualifications: Nationally funded research program. Teaching experience. Rank/Salary: Competitive starting salary commensurate with education and experience. Application information: Review of applications will begin immediately and the positions will remain open until filled. Effective/Starting Date: Negotiable. References: Provide names, email addresses and phone numbers of three references, including the most recent supervisor. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply. Apply at http://www.etsu.edu/jobs/ under “Medical Faculty”. AA/EOE.
