INVITATION TO ATTEND

Navigating Change, Strengthening Departments, and Shaping the Future of Pharmacology

It is my pleasure to invite you to the AMSPC Annual Meeting, a conference dedicated to the challenges facing academic leaders in Pharmacology.  The meeting will take place January 24-28, 2027, in Tucson, Arizona, at the Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort.  We welcome conference participation by department chairs of pharmacology units within schools of medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and public health.

Based on the survey of pharmacology chairs, we plan to use a mix of panel discussions, workshops, and presentations to include the following topics for AMSPC2027:

  • Strategies to Sustain Research in a Challenging Funding Climate
  • Building Strong Departments: People, Budgets, Recruitment, and Conflict
  • The Future of Pharmacology: Discipline, Education, AI, and Translation
  • Opportunities for presentations of new and seasoned chairs to include brief science and their department profile

Registration includes an "Adobe & Agave" Welcome Reception at sunset, a group excursion to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and a farewell dinner with stargazing under the desert sky.  Social Guest activities include a history tour, morning yoga class, and a falconry experience. Optional activities like hiking in Sabino Canyon, a Jeep Desert Ecology Tour or an evening Sound Bath Healing experience are also available. To extend your networking time, we invite you to arrive early or stay later to take a day trip to Biosphere 2, historic Tombstone, Kartchner Caverns, or other local area highlights.

Like in previous AMSPC meetings, the conversations with colleagues at meals and social events are sometimes just as important as the programming in the conference room, and you will have plenty of time in both settings.  In addition to scientific presentations, insightful panel discussions, and updates from ASPET, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn of ways that chairs can support one another as we lead our faculty, trainees, and departments toward success. With abundant options for dining, sightseeing, and socializing, Tucson provides a dynamic backdrop to engage with old and new colleagues alike.

If you have attended an AMSPC meeting previously, you already know the value of talking with your academic colleagues and learning from their strategies for leadership.  If you have never attended, you are overdue for this important networking and career development opportunity, and we are ready to help.  I hope you will be able to join us in January for a stimulating meeting in this historic setting.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions about AMSPC or its annual meeting.

NOTE: If you need to pay for your social guest fee separately, please register yourself first.

Then email manager@amspc.org to add your social guest and/our tours.  We will update your registration and send an invoice for online credit card payment.

Late registrations may be possible but cannot be guaranteed. Contact us with any questions.
