The primary objectives guiding AMSPC are to provide a collective forum for the Chairs of Departments of Pharmacology and allied disciplines to support and further advance the educational and scientific bases of the pharmacological sciences. Although the focus of these goals is primarily within medical schools, AMSPC is dedicated to engaging all areas of science and education where the discipline of pharmacology contributes to the advance of scientific knowledge and to the development of therapeutics in the biomedical sciences. AMSPC emphasizes the importance of pharmacology to medical and graduate school education, basic and applied research, as well as to issues related to research funding and the relationships of our discipline to academic, industry and governmental and regulatory agencies. AMSPC also maintains and regularly updates the Knowledge Objectives in Medical Pharmacology — the essential elements of pharmacology that should be taught to medical and graduate students. AMSPC maintains and benefits from a close relationship with the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). Our annual meeting, typically held in late January and early February, provides a unique and valuable opportunity for collegial interactions, fostering communication and dissemination of pharmacological knowledge along with a heightened awareness and sharing of developments that impact pharmacology and have a bearing on both the educational mission, scientific goals and the impact on departmental functioning. The development and fostering of collegial and broadened relationships is a very beneficial by-product of this meeting. |
