The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a tenure-ineligible Assistant Professor of Research. The incumbent will perform laboratory research aimed at understanding neural control of cardiovascular and respiratory function. The incumbent will use a combination of cutting-edge molecular, neurophysiological and optical approaches to study specific brain circuits that regulate blood pressure and breathing, performing experiments that involve methods for measuring and manipulating gene and protein expression in the brain (e.g., molecular neuroanatomy, viral-mediated gene expression) and for characterizing function of cardiorespiratory neurons (single cell recording, photometry) and their relevant functional outputs (nerve activity, blood pressure, breathing). Further, the incumbent is expected to develop and direct research projects, submit research proposals to funding agencies, present experimental findings during lab meetings and at national conferences, and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.

Candidates must have an MD or PhD or equivalent in Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or a related field by appointment start date, and four to six years of research experience with suitable publications.

To apply, visit https://jobs.virginia.edu and search on Posting Number 0620644. Complete a Candidate Profile online, attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.

This position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in the future, consistent with SOM Promotion and Tenure guidelines and candidate qualifications. The position will remain open until filled.
