Assistant/Associate Professor Position as Core Basic Science Educator at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School

    Overview: 

    Rutgers New Jersey Medical School seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in the organ systems-based curriculum. The successful candidate will have a PhD, MD/DO or equivalent degree in Pharmacology, Physiology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline, and will be appointed on the teaching track.  The successful candidate will demonstrate mastery of the requisite knowledge to teach across multiple systems, including neuroscience, neuroanatomy, neurology, cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal and genitourinary. The appointee would join a cadre of teaching faculty at Rutgers NJMS who teach foundational science in the preclerkship curriculum across Years 1 and 2.

    Responsibilities: 

    Under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience, in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Education: 

    • Develop and teach the foundational science within the organ systems-based curriculum to undergraduate medical students, utilizing interactive and active learning/flipped modalities. 
    • Collaboratively work with the co-course director and course coordinator to provide effective course administration and delivery.
    • Develop both formative and summative assessments for course content. 
    • Serve as co-director for at least one pre-clerkship, organ systems-based course. 
    • Provide additional academic support to remediating students. 
    • Design and analyze course evaluation data for continuous quality improvement. 
    • Work in partnership with the organ systems-based course directors to ensure course content is aligned and consistent with LCME standards. 
    • Serve on the Preclerkship Curriculum Committee as an active member. 
    • Participate in LCME accreditation activities. 
    • Engage in educational scholarship, including publishing in medical education literature and presenting at regional and national meetings. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Experience teaching in a medical student education setting is preferred but not required.  
    • Evidence of effective teaching in clinical, small group and large group classroom teaching, and leadership roles in courses. 
    • Evidence of effective teaching, experience in faculty development, and a commitment to work productively with a team of medical educators from clinical and basic science disciplines. 
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively and independently, problem solve, think critically, and demonstrate flexibility. 
    • Evidence of innovation and scholarship in medical education is also desired. 
    • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence in the academic community and the ability to teach students from all backgrounds. 

    Type: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Eligible for Teaching Track 

    Education Requirements: Faculty must have a PhD, MD/DO, or equivalent degree.
