The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Educator Pathway at the level of Assistant Professor. This position is designed for early career scientist-teachers who are interested in an academic pathway involving curriculum development and teaching. The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is dedicated to the highest quality education of medical and graduate students. Accordingly, this is a promotion-track and competitively compensated position that will strategically position the department for emerging educational needs. Faculty in the Educator Path are expected to place emphasis on teaching excellence and educational leadership.  Research or other evidence of scholarly activities is required and includes activities related to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), although the measures for assessment of appointments are primarily focused on accomplishment and potential in teaching and educational leadership.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is poised to launch a new integrated curriculum in 2023. Additionally, the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology has committed to strategically enhancing its contribution to graduate education at MCW. This faculty member will play a critical role in supporting these efforts, in addition to designing new courses/lectures and delivering pharmacology-specific content to medical and graduate students. The faculty member will work with an interdisciplinary team of biomedical scientists and clinicians to develop novel interactive medical educational and curricular materials. These will include but not be limited to the development of didactic and interactive team-based learning activities related to foundational principles of pharmacology, systems-based drug therapeutics and pharmacogenomics. The faculty member will also develop interprofessional collaborations to advance understanding of pharmacology and the effect of drugs in a variety of patient populations for students in different healthcare professional programs. Additionally, the faculty member will work collaboratively to support graduate student and post-doc education and training efforts through didactic instruction and program/curriculum development.

The faculty member will have the opportunity for membership in MCW’s Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education, through which they will work within a vibrant, highly collaborative, and interdisciplinary culture of teaching scholars dedicated to supporting medical education at MCW.

While the start date for the position is flexible, the preferred start date is April 1st, 2023. Successful applicants will have an M.D./D.O. or a Ph.D. in a biomedical discipline, preferably pharmacology and experience teaching pharmacology or related content in a higher education setting.
