The University of Arizona invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Pharmacy. Individuals with broad interests in pharmacology, toxicology and/or drug discovery are encouraged to apply. The Head is responsible for advancing the educational and research missions of the department and college. The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized leader with a PhD or MD degree, and a substantial record of NIH-funded research and peer-reviewed scholarly productivity. She or he will have the in-depth knowledge and ability to effectively lead scientific researchers and academicians while embracing the importance of academic distinction, diversity, and financial sustainability.
The College is under new leadership and poised for growth in the areas of therapeutic target identification, drug discovery, drug metabolism, gene-environment interactions, molecular or computational toxicology and pharmacology, systems biology, metabolomics, and bioinformatics/statistics of “omics” technologies over the next several years. In addition, the College enjoys a rich history among the top echelon of all pharmacy schools nationally. The College is home to the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center, the Center for Toxicology, and the Program in Drug Discovery. Excellent opportunities exist for research collaborations within an active community of basic and clinical scientists in academic departments across the university, as well as participation in numerous Centers of Excellence that include the Arizona Cancer Center, Bio5 Institute, Sarver Heart Center, and Arizona Respiratory Center. The University of Arizona Health Sciences have proven interdisciplinary strengths in imaging, bioinformatics, genomics, and precision medicine, with particular focus on chronic diseases and related behaviors impacting environmental and general health in diverse populations.
