Chair, Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology Position
The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology. The successful applicant is expected to provide the scientific vision to advance the research and educational missions of the department and to build on the department’s existing research strengths. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D, M.D. or equivalent degree, a well-funded and internationally recognized research program in the broad areas of biochemistry and/or microbiology, and demonstrated outstanding leadership and administrative experience.
The Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology currently has eleven faculty members with positions available for recruitment. The department is responsible for the education of medical students and the education/training of graduate students (MS, PhD, MD/PhD) in the Biomedical Sciences Program. Faculty members are actively involved in a number of areas of research including natural products and cancer, stem cell biology, cell signaling mechanisms, infectious disease and genomic aspects of chronic disease. There are research collaborations with clinical faculty members and a number of investigator-initiated clinical trials are in progress. Additional collaborations are available with faculty in the newly formed School of Pharmacy and other units of the University.
